HODL, short for "hold on for dear life", is a Bitcoin mantra. It's buy and hold strategy with religious devotion to never sell.
Why problematic? You can marry a wife, but you don't marry a trade, because in trading the market doesn't care about your feelings.
A trade is a trade. And every trade must come with a clear exit signal. If the trade is against you, get out. If it's working, ride the trend, but always be ready to exit. Period.
